Van de partij Michael Bradley;

Michael Bradley, 5 -- Started way too slow but eventually got into the match, and his near goal from a 17th minute header sparked him towards some other good moments in the first half. His tackling was OK, but he still goes to the ground too often for my taste.

Ook typisch voor het voetbal in AmerikaMichael Bradley -- Didn't play badly, but has yet to really distinguish himself with the squad, either. To be fair, though, he had little time to get a feel for the match in this encounter.
zie ook dit topic over Michael http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=549740Saturday's reported sellout crowd of 27,000 was largely due to Guatemala's 1-0 victory over El Salvador earlier in the day, but the United States had a majority of the Southern California fans pulling for it, a rarity in a tournament that features mostly Latin American teams that are extremely popular in the region.

Benny Feilhaber and Michael Bradley are young, but they are ready. Both players have had their good moments and bad moments this tournament but there is no denying that both have the qualities and abilities to merit their continued time on the field. If you have an issue with them playing a bit ugly in the El Salvador match, it should be noted that the central midfield's key task was smothering the opposing central midfield, which they did.

Bradley speelt hele wedstrijd.

No player's stock rose higher than Michael Bradley's. Criticized for his play in the group stage, Bradley responded by delivering the type of steady performance that you expect of a player 10 years his senior. His patience on the ball, ability to consistently make the right pass and tireless work rate made him a key factor in helping slow down Panama's attack and also solidified his role in the tournament's remaining matches.

With one minute left in regulation time, Michael Bradley was ejected after tackling Juan de Guzman just near the center circle, putting the midfielder out of the championship match.

Hmmmm.... "...Could have been a desaster"???
Predictable Gold Cup Final Could Be Anything but
By VICTOR MATHER
In the end, we have the Gold Cup final that everyone expected, those old rivals the United States and Mexico at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday.
Although between them the teams have won seven of the eight Gold Cups, they have met in the finals only twice before. In 1993, Mexico spanked the defending champion Americans, 4-0, in front of 120,000 fans in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. In 1998, the United States had a chance to reverse the result at home in Los Angeles, but Mexico won again, this time 1-0 on a goal by skinny-headband-wearer Luis Hernández, probably the most booed Mexican player by the American fans over the years.
The Mexicans' route to the final this time hasn't been pretty. They opened up with a loss to Honduras and then managed to beat Cuba and Panama by the odd goal to finish second in their group. Their quarterfinal victory over Costa Rica came in extra time over a 10-man side, and in the semis they failed to score on plucky Guadaloupe until the 70th minute.
The run to the semis by Guadeloupe, basically a state of France and not even eligible for the World Cup, is certainly not the best reflection on the quality of the teams in the region after the Big Two.
Opinions on the Americans' play so far are mixed. Some commentators have been disappointed by the team's apparent struggles to kill off games against clearly inferior opponents. On the other hand, the team has won five straight matches, outscoring its opponents by 11-3.
The oddsmakers like the home team, giving the U.S. about a 60 percent chance to lift the Cup.
Here's a rundown of the American players, ranked by average rating out of 10 based on the subjective views of those who analyzed the games for the New York Times.
Landon Donovan (Los Angeles) 7.8: The best player on the pitch almost every moment; constantly involved in the play; has showed great vision.
Clint Dempsey (Fulham) 7.5: Scored against Guatemala and was involved in several other goals; always seems to be in the right place.
Brian Ching (Houston) 7.5: Started against shaky Trinidad and ran rampant, scoring one and setting up another; looked good in a couple of substitute appearances also.
Frank Simek (Sheffield Wednesday) 7.5: Also started only the Trinidad game and was a genuine attacking threat from right back.
Justin Mapp (Chicago) 7.0: Another who sparkled against Trinidad; wasn't seen again.
Benny Feilhaber (Hamburg) 6.8: A solid presence in midfield; good passing.
DaMarcus Beasley (Manchester City/PSV Eindhoven) 6.8: Two goals against El Salvador; often baffled defenders; didn't do as much in the knockout stages.
Tim Howard (Everton) 6.7: Impossible to fault; would be ranked higher but often had little to do in goal.
Jonathan Spector (West Ham) 6.5: Solid in defense in two appearances.
Ricardo Clark (Houston) 6.5: Started only against Trinidad.
Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham) 6.3: Scored a nice header against Panama; rating is pulled down by a number of mistakes in the semis, including a challenge he could well have been sent off for.
Frankie Hejduk (Columbus) 6.3: Scored a goal against Canada; has focused on attacking football, sometimes at the expense of his defensive duties.
Taylor Twellman (New England) 6.3: Scored against El Salvador, but has had an awful lot of misses.
Steve Ralston (New England) 6.3: Another who only started the Trinidad game.
Michael Bradley (Heerenveen) 6.1: As the coach's son is always going to be a lightning rod for criticism; has drawn mostly negative reviews from analysts and supporters; red card in the semi could have been a disaster.
Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado) 6.0: Didn't play until game three; has improved game to game.
Michael Parkhurst (New England) 6.0: Made his U.S. debut in Trinidad game; still finding his international legs.
Jay DeMerit (Watford) 6.0: Not a whole lot to do in defense against Trinidad.
Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA) 5.8: Had some nice linkup play on the left with Beasley in the El Salvador romp, but looked shaky at times in the knockout stages.
Eddie Johnson (Kansas City) 5.7: Can't stop scoring in M.L.S. and did tally one against Trinidad; Coach Bradley has started him only twice though, and the offense rarely went through him; needs to find a way to sparkle in different tactical setups.
Kasey Keller (Borussia Moenchengladbach) 5.3: Not much to do in goal against Trinidad, but looked ill at ease against Canada. Bradley's decision to make Howard his No. 1 has been more than justified.
Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege) 4.8: Red card against Guatemala – and that might have been his best game; a yellow against El Salvador gave them their best chance to score; frequently out of position in both knockout games. Time to give DeMerit a shot in central defense?
Brad Guzan (Chivas USA) NR: Third-string keeper did not play.
Hmmmm.... "...Could have been a desaster"???
Unlike the previous game, the Americans largely held their nerve. Bradley was the sole exception and his late challenge from behind on Julian DeGuzman in the 88th minute earned him a straight red card. Hejduk, who earned a second yellow card in tournament play, will be suspended from Sunday's final.

Heb je even tijd?
